The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, has called on newly- promoted Naval Officers to assist in finding workable solutions to the myriads of maritime challenges.
Ibas made the call at the Decoration Ceremony of 11 senior officers recently elevated to the rank of Rear Admiral at the Naval Headquarters on Wednesday in Abuja.
The naval chief, on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, the entire naval family and the whole armed forces, congratulated the newly-decorated promoted officers and their families.
He reminded the elevated senior officers that promotion came with greater expectations and responsibilities, saying: “ I owe you a duty that cannot tarry“.
“From now onwards, you will be expected to distinguish yourself in finding workable solutions to myriads of maritime challenges confronting the Nigerian Navy and indeed other social problems facing the nation.
“It is the only way for you to give back to the society that has been so faithful and kind to you and justify the confidence the system that has adjudged you worthy of this recognition, “ Ibas said.
He described the military career as an extremely challenging one, adding that it was also a vocation with unrelenting demand for devotion, commitment, dedication and integrity.
The chief of naval staff said honesty, intelligence, knowledge, patriotism, honour, and loyalty to service and the nation were also required.
“For progress to be made, a career officer must have these qualities in abundance to qualify him for consideration to ascend the ladder of the pyramidal structure,’’ he added.
Ibas noted that the officers being decorated had strived hard to meet these requirements, stay true to their professional demands and weather the storm of career progression.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted senior officers, Rear Adm. Mohammed Garba, said they were determined to justify the confidence reposed in them.
“ I want to assure that we will continue to dedicate ourselves to the service of our fatherland and truly, our fatherland needs an operational navy to defend our territorial waters“.
The senior officers elevated to the rank of rear admiral, apart from Mohammed Garba, include; Magaji Danladi, Theadeous Udofia, Dogara Albehu, Ifeola Mohammed, Markson Kadiri and Abubakar Alhasan.
Others are; Obi Ofodile, Akinjide Akinrinade, Stanford Enouck, and Ngolmo Aliyu.
Similarly, the Nigerian Navy had in a brief ceremony decorated 6 newly-promoted Commodores.
