A faction of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA) has kicked against the collection of practitioners’ operating fee by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
The association’s Vice-President, Mr Uchu Block, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos yesterday that the body would not be a part of any fee-paying arrangement made by the CRFFN.
“We are not accepting to be a part of this because there is no council in place”, he said.

“We are not accepting to be a part of this because there is no council in place”, he said.
To emphasise his point, the vice-president provided documentary evidence to back up their decision not to comply with the directive.
The association in the letter, urged the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) to intervene in the matter and to also restrain the CRFFN from going ahead with its plan to collect the fee.
He said that the proposed fee included N2,000 for a 40ft container; N1,000 for a 20’ foot container and N1,000 for 20’foot truck; N2,000 for a 40’foot truck.
He said for any car and jeep cleared, the proposed CRFFN fee should be pegged at N500.
The CRFFN had earlier in a public notice said that it would begin the collection of the fee from May 11, 2015.
It stated that the fee was not supposed to affect the cost of cargo clearance at the ports and that the freight forwarding associations were duly informed.
Block, however, said that his association only came across the information in the media.
