The Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA), Kaduna State chapter, has  carried out a humanitarian outreach to the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital and Magajin Gari Orphanage Home, Kaduna, as part of efforts to support vulnerable groups in the state.

The outreach was led by the Chairperson of the association, Mrs Madinatu  Hassan, who said the initiative was in line with COWA’s mandate to promote social responsibility and community development.

During the visit to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, the delegation donated essential relief materials to the patients to ease their hospital stay and aid recovery.

The management of the hospital received the team and briefed them on the facility’s needs after a tour of the wards.

At the Magajin Gari Orphanage Home, COWA donated baby items, toiletries and foodstuffs to the children.

The management and caregivers of the orphanage expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.

Hassan said the association remained committed to complementing the efforts of the Nigeria Customs Service by fostering goodwill and extending care to the less privileged in society.

She stated that compassion and service to humanity were core values of COWA, adding that such interventions were aimed at strengthening community ties and improving the wellbeing of vulnerable persons.

In furtherance of its empowerment drive, the chairperson said the Kaduna chapter also empowered a widow, Mrs Sarah Japhet, a member of COWA, in line with the directive of the National President, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi.

According to her, the empowerment package included the revival of the widow’s business, renovation of her shop and payment of rent to enable her sustain her livelihood and support her family.

Hassan stressed that empowering widows and vulnerable women was central to COWA’s mission, as women’s economic independence contributed to stronger families and more resilient communities.

She thanked the members of the association for their support and pledged that COWA would continue to initiate programmes that positively impact lives across Kaduna State and beyond.
