The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) is set to introduce freight forwarding and supply chain management courses in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
The CRFFN said that the move will likely be achieved before the end 2015 with a view to ensuring that such courses are designed in Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Monotechnics that award HND and ND respectively.
As contained in a statement sent to Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, yesterday by the Head of Corporate Affairs of CRFFN; Mrs, Uromta Chinyere, the development was part of effort to boost freight forwarding practice in the nation’s tertiary institutions.
The image-maker also stated that a technical committee comprising of officials of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in conjunction with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and CRFFN met in Zaria last week to finalize details of accreditation of the courses into higher institutions.
"In an effort to introduce National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management in our great country, the Curriculum Development Planning Workshop was held by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in conjunction with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and CRFFN in NITT, Zaria from Monday, 17th to Wednesday, 19th August, 2015”, the statement added.
According to the statement, the CRFFN is also set to introduce such courses in Nigeria universities come 2016.
The statement further added that, "it was a highly technical exercise to enable CRFFN to domesticate the accreditation of the Diploma and Higher Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management granted to Nigeria in 2012 in United States of America”
"In 2013 in Singapore respectively by the Switzerland based International Regulator and World Body of Freight Forwarders, International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA)."
"Hopefully, this will be achieved this year so that ND and HND in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management will be among the courses to be offered at Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by JAMB for admission into Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Monotechnics.
“Likewise, CRFFN will embark on introducing degree programme in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management at all levels next year, 2016”, it added.
