The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has congratulated the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on his election as Vice President (Africa) of the International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH).

In a message signed by its Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Barrister Igwe Kingsley, the Council described the election as a “well-deserved recognition” of the NPA boss’s exemplary leadership and visionary contributions to the development of the maritime and port industry in Nigeria and across the African continent.

Igwe noted that the appointment was also a strong vote of confidence from the international maritime community in the capacity of the NPA Managing Director to drive innovation, progress, and meaningful cooperation among ports globally.

“This election is a clear recognition of your leadership, dedication, and visionary contributions to the growth and transformation of the maritime and port industry in Nigeria and across Africa. It is also evidence of the level of confidence that the international maritime community bestows on your capacity to foster cooperation among ports worldwide,” the CRFFN Registrar said.

The CRFFN further expressed optimism that the new tenure would amplify Africa’s voice within the IAPH, while advancing sustainable growth, operational efficiency, and international collaboration across the maritime industry.

“We are confident that your tenure will further strengthen Africa’s participation in global port discussions while promoting efficiency and sustainability in maritime operations. We look forward to the remarkable impact your leadership will continue to bring to the Nigerian Ports Authority, Nigeria, and the wider African maritime industry,” Igwe added.

The International Association of Ports and Harbours, founded in 1955, is a global alliance of ports and port-related businesses with headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. The association currently represents about 170 ports and 140 port-linked businesses across nearly 90 countries, handling over 60 percent of world seaborne trade.

Industry stakeholders have described the NPA Managing Director’s election as a milestone achievement for Nigeria’s maritime administration, positioning the country and the continent for greater influence in shaping global port policy, fostering investment partnerships, and advancing digitalisation and green port initiatives.
