The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has announced plans to launch a 1,000-man training programme for freight forwarders operating at airports nationwide.
Mr Kingsley Igwe, the Registrar of the Council, said this on Wednesday in Abuja during the 2025 Sectoral Retreat for Top Management of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy and its agencies.
He said that the initiative was aimed at promoting professionalism and aligning local practices with global standards.
“I commend the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for its efforts in strengthening Nigeria’s air cargo industry.
“As part of our commitment to enhance swift forwarding at airports, we are planning to digitalise and build the capacity of 1,000 freight forwarders across the country,” Igwe said.
According to him, the goal is to improve speed, transparency, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance within the freight forwarding sector.
Igwe also disclosed plans for a comprehensive overhaul of certain freight collection processes to eliminate technical glitches, multiple charges, and delays in the remittance of entitlements.
He stressed that all efforts were geared toward creating a seamless freight forwarding environment in the country.
In his development report to the minister, Igwe highlighted internal reforms aimed at boosting staff productivity.
He declared that the council now had zero debt on staff salaries and contracts.
“Before my appointment in late 2024, staffs were owed ten months’ salaries, and the council’s facilities were in a deplorable state. This impacted staff morale.
“Today, with the support of the minister and the ministry, all arrears has been cleared, and approval has been granted for the repair of five staff buses, which we believe will improve punctuality and productivity,” he said.
Igwe expressed gratitude to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, for facilitating the council’s reintegration into the Federal Government budget.
He noted that the development had resulted in significant progress and would assist the council in fully delivering on its mandate.
