The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has advised the Federal Government to introduce a course in transportation in tertiary institutions.
Dr Alban Igwe, the Director of Education and Research of the council, gave the advice in Lagos.
Igwe said the introduction of the course would enhance the managerial skills of Nigerians in the transportation sector.

Igwe said the introduction of the course would enhance the managerial skills of Nigerians in the transportation sector.
“You won’t find many people studying transport. If you go to villages and ask people who are writing JAMB what will you study and take a sample, you won’t find people to say I want to study transport.
“When we started transport, people were making jest of us that we were going to become “agbero’’ when we finish or bus conductor.
“But it didn’t turn out to be so; we turned out to become people that other people rely upon to do quite a number of things.
“I was a consultant to ABC transport.''
He said experts were needed to manage the transport sector as it was too critical to be left in the hands of mediocre.
“Transport is so critical it is more critical than some of the other professions you think.
“For instance, if somebody wants to study medicine, they will say yes he is a doctor, haa! He is more important.
“But doctor is no more important than transport specialist because not all of us need medicine every day.
“In fact I have not taken medicine for the past 28 to 29 years, but is there anybody that hasn’t taken transport, whether his working or using a motor, nobody.
“And if you freeze transport for one day the economy is losing, if let say nobody should travel today.
“If we say nobody should take medicine today many people will live.
“But if you say nobody should make any form of movement, which is transport for one day, the economy is frozen; some people will die of hunger because they would need to get somewhere to make the money.
“And if the airlines go on strike, the maritime goes on strike, do you know how many millions we are losing?”
He advised the government to employ professionals who understood the fundamentals and ramifications of transport.
He said such professionals could fashion out a real transport policy documents for the country, as the country does not has a transport policy till date.
