The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali Ibrahim has said that henceforth, no officer of the service will be allowed to spend more than three years at a particular command.
As a follow up to his tour of various Customs formations which began on Monday, the Customs boss yesterday visited the PTML Command, Western Marine, Tin Can Island Command and the KLT commands.
Addressing officers at the PTML Command, Ali assured that postings will now be carried out twice in a year within commands and that all officers that have stayed for more than three years at their various posts will soon be posted out.
The Customs boss also said that customs is going to introduce 'age on rank' policy which will ensure that officers who are not promoted before attaining a particular age will be forcefully sent off.
The CGC warned that the service will no longer accept officers who metamorphose into clearing agents; he warned that officers caught running clearing licenses, aiding corruption, under valuation and concealments are liable to ten years imprisonment.
"We are going to review postings very soon, we will have postings twice in a year, so that we can synchronize and stop the disruption in the school years of your children, yourself and many other things"

"Once you are due for posting, you will be in the pool and you will be posted to where the service wants you to be, and henceforth, every posting will be maximum of three years, nobody, for as long as I remain in this service will remain in a posting for more than three years"

"Take note than this issue of staying in one post for ten years have come to a stop and the issue of people moving from one desk to another has come to stop, you must be versatile and cut across all sections" he said
Col Ali said that his attention has been brought to the fact that most times; officers are nominated for training courses but they refuse to attend. He said that officers who refuse to attend courses will now be denied promotions.
He said that the service will introduce a service scheme, where courses will be itemized to assist in promotion of officer.
He said that customs is a highly technical service and that officers need to attend courses in order to be efficient enough in their work.
He however assured the officers that their welfare and remunerations will be properly reviewed in as much as the revenue of the government is not jeopardized.
Ali urged officers and men of the service to block all revenue leakages at their various commands, saying that any cargo arrested by the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) at the hinterlands will be traced back to the port or land borders and that the releasing officers will be dealth with.
Chairman of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents at the PTML Command, Prince Bola Oyeniran who spoke on behalf of the clearing agents at the command pleaded with the CGC to ensure that all alerts issued on cargoes duly cleared at the ports should be removed.
He enjoined the Customs boss to look into the epileptic scanners at the port which he said is hampering quick clearing of cargoes from the ports.
The agents also appealed to the Customs Boss to look into the diversion of vehicles through neighboring ports of Cotonou.
