The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to boosting trade facilitation and operational efficiency during a working visit to the Oyo/Osun Area Command in Ibadan on Tuesday, June 10.
A key highlight of the visit was Comptroller Adeniyi’s inspection of the Ibadan Train Station Terminal and a prospective private bonded warehouse. The bonded facility, once operational, is expected to significantly enhance cargo clearance and ease trade logistics in the region.
According to the Comptroller General, “the warehouse will complement ongoing efforts to decongest seaports and expedite the movement of goods to their final destinations. This aligns with our broader goal of simplifying customs procedures and promoting legitimate trade.”
Welcoming the CG, the Custom Area Controller of Oyo/Osun command, Joseph Adelaja reported a revenue collection of ₦28.05 billion between February and May 2025, surpassing last year’s figure of ₦23.84 billion during the same period. He also disclosed the seizure of prohibited goods worth over ₦917 million in Duty Paid Value.
Despite these achievements, Adelaja outlined major operational hurdles, including manpower shortages, limited operational vehicles, and electricity challenges at the barracks. He appealed for the deployment of 80 junior officers and provision of 16 additional vehicles to boost field efficiency.
In his response, the CG assured that the service headquarters would consider their requests promptly. He stressed the need for continuous professional development, urging officers to remain dedicated and knowledgeable in delivering on the agency’s mandates.
