The Nigeria Customs Service has seized frozen poultry products worth N37.8 million in the eighth and ninth week of its special anti-poultry product smuggling action, code named ‘Operation Hawk Descend’.
This is contained in a statement signed by the service Deputy Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Attah, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Attah said that the war against smugglers of frozen poultry products into the country, tagged “Operation Hawk Descend”, had continued to yield massive results.

Attah said that the war against smugglers of frozen poultry products into the country, tagged “Operation Hawk Descend”, had continued to yield massive results.
“The service has recorded seizures of the banned product worth N37.836 million in the eighth and ninth week of its operations.
“The seizures, which consist of 8,408 cartons of the frozen products, were impounded at different locations along the south western borders of Nigeria.
“These include Badagry, Yekeme and Seme Ashipa Creeks in Badagry Seme axis.''
Other locations include Seme, Gbaji and Owode Creeks in Lagos and Idiroko axis.
“The breakdown of the seizures is as follows: Ogun, 2,213 cartons valued at N9,958,500.
“Federal Operation Unit A, 4,412 cartons valued at N19,854,000 and Seme, 200 cartons valued at N900,000.
“Western Marine, 1,583 cartons valued at N7,123,500 and the total cartons are 8,408 and total value of N37,836,000,'' Attah said.
He said that in a maiden meeting held with officers and men of the service, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), retired Col. Hameed Ali, reaffirmed the service commitment to arrest and prosecute anyone caught in the act of smuggling.
Attah reported Ali as saying that all revenue leakages would be appropriately blocked.
He said that the CGC said every act of economic sabotage, including false declarations, deliberate misapplication of tariff, undervaluation and concealment should be dealt with decisively.
According to him, Ali called on all stakeholders to support the service, to achieve its mandate of securing the nation and boosting the economy.
