The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has appealed to management of the service to assist in providing more vehicles to ensure more success in its quest to fight smuggling in all its area of jurisdictiuon.
Customs Area Controller, Controller Yusuf Umar made the appeal during the Comptroller General of Customs; Col Hameed Ali’s visit to the command on Tuesday last week.
Umar told his boss that lack of patrol van is the main challenge being faced by the unit because of the large areas covered by the command.

The Area Controller who pleaded that the command would fared better if it had 4-wheel drive Toyota Hilux van, added that lack of patrol vans is a major problem for the various out-stations teams under his watch.
He further added that," because of the large area the Western Marine Command is controlling, I request you consider allocating more vehicles like 4 wheel drive Hilux pick up vehicles to enable us allocate to the out-stations which are presently lacking"
"Furthermore, I will still request for the allocation of a truck to enable us convey seizures to the base".
Speaking further, the controller explained that "the present practice of hiring commercial trucks to provide this service has serious security implications”, he told the Comptroller General of Customs.
