The 2013 Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA), which coincides with the annual Shipping World Lecture, organized by Maritime Media Limited is set to take place this weekend in Lagos as scheduled.
A statement issued in Lagos and signed by the chief executive officer of Maritime Media Limited, Mr Asu Beks disclosed that the Minister of Transport, Senator Idris Umar will also be honoured as the Maritime Man of the Year 2012, along with winners of other categories of the Nigerian Maritime Industry’s Most Coveted Award.

According to him, winners of the other categories of the awards include: Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party ((PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, for the Lifetime Achievement Award, Deputy Director, Public Relations, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Hajia Lamin Tumaka, for the Most Outstanding Maritime Industry Image Maker,Chief Executive Officer, Classic Marine Services, Elder Famous Enearu, for the Most Promising Maritime Personality 2013; and the Deputy Editor, Businessday Newspaper, Mr Charles Ike-Okoh, for the Business Editor of the Year, 2012.
As part of activities lined up for the programme, , former Lagos State Commissioner of Transport, Professor Bamidele Badejo will deliver the programme lecture titled: “An effective intermodal system of transport as a panacea to African economic integration”.
The ceremony, which will have in attendance renowned captains of industry, will be presided over by Senator David Mark, Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Miss Dzifa Aku Ativor, Minister of Transport; Federal Republic of Ghana will be the Special Guest of Honour, while Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo, will be the Chief Guest of Honour.
