With the 2014 FIFA World Cup just days away from kick-off in Brazil, trade to and from the host country could come to a standstill from today due to national port strikes, according to Inchcape Shipping Services’ Brazilian operation.
“The indefinite strike, organised by the Union of Stevedores, is expected to affect stevedore operations in all ports across Brazil and is predicted to cause considerable delays with cargo operations from 10 June unless an early resolution can be reached with the Brazilian Federal Government,” said ISS Brazil.

A previous strike planned by Brazil’s National Federation of Stevedores at the end of May over hiring and pension practices was scrapped at the last minute in favour of further negotiations with Ministers.
