The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has again expressed concern over the indiscriminate parking of fuel tankers and other articulated vehicles on the access road to the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
The General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Mr Yakubu Dati, made this known while speaking with newsmen in Lagos yesterday.
The FAAN had in August 2013, relocated the tanker drivers to a permanent site within the airport environment but they had failed to adhere to the order.

The FAAN had in August 2013, relocated the tanker drivers to a permanent site within the airport environment but they had failed to adhere to the order.
Investigations revealed that fuel tankers and other articulated vehicles were seen parked indiscriminately on both sides of the airport access road.
The development caused heavy traffic as the three-lane road was reduced to one for other motorists to ply.
Dati said that the refusal of the tanker drivers to obey FAAN's directive, in spite of several appeals was worrisome.
He said: “We have been appealing to them, especially due to safety concerns because the airport is a highly regulated environment.
“It is an issue that has to do with safety and security, especially at this time that we live in.
“We have done what we can do. We have appealed to them, we have created an alternative park for them after discussions with their union but they keep on coming back to the road’’.
Dati noted that FAAN was not an enforcer of laws hence it had no power to forcefully remove the vehicles from the road.
He, however, said the authority would soon meet to decide the next step to take in resolving the issue.
