The Federal Capital Territory [FCT] command of the Nigeria Customs Service has collected unprecedented revenue of about N464.816million for the month of May, 2010.
A break down of the figures given by the command shows that it collected the sum of N318.305million into the federation account, while N146, 511million was collected into the non-federation account.
According to the command’s public relations officer, Mr Eke Chukwuma, the figure show a remarkable increase of about N409.529million over the corresponding month of May, 2009 which stood at N40,593million.
With this collection, it was confirmed that the command has achieved and surpassed its monthly target of N416, 700million thereby exceeding the target with over N48, 116million.
According to the press release, “while demonstrating his excitement over the revenue, the FCT Customs Area Controller, Alhaji Usman Bello commended the performance of the officers and men of the command for showing great enthusiasm and commitment towards their job which has enabled them surpass the monthly target for the command”.
In his commendation address, Bello said, “I want to commend and congratulate all the officers in the area command for satisfactorily achieving this great feat. To this end, all the Officers in the area command are hereby implored not to rest on their oars, but to re-double efforts in achieving the 2010 revenue target that was set for the command by Customs Headquarters”.
