The Federal Roads Committee on Surveillance and Action Against Road Abuse(FERCSARA), South West Zone 2, has commended the Nigerian Shippers’ Council on the smooth commencement of the Advance Cargo Information System, otherwise known as International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN), saying that it will tremendously assist trade facilitation.
Chairman of the South West zone of FERCSARA; Chief Austine Kelly gave the commendation in a chat with Shipping Position Daily, last week, even as he urged the council to be firm in its directives to all shipping line agencies in the country.
According to him, the council is expected to face resistance from the multinationals and that studies have shown that the CTN has no negative implication to trade; rather it has many positive sides.
Kelly also advised the maritime public to shun negative reports from some quarters about the disadvantages of CTN, noting that it’s a mere campaign that is being sponsored by faceless forces who want to pull the government policy down.
The foremost licensed customs agent said the Nigerian Shippers’ Council has recorded some level of achievement for the singular act of reintroducing CTN, saying that it is the hallmark of a regulator in ports operations.
"The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has succeeded in reintroducing CTN and as it is today, the council has succeeded"
"We will continue to back them up as far as it will enhance trade facilitation because I know there will be so much advantages that we can derive from CTN"
According to him, the reintroduction of CTN is a clear indications that the country has advanced in international business.
"Those that antagonise or kick against the CTN are being sponsored by enemies of progress because CTN is not adding any cost in doing business at the ports"
"Those people are sponsored by invisible bodies but we know they will fail because CTN has experienced a smooth take-off"
"We know that those speaking against CTN are those being sponsored by some people for their own advantage because we know that there is economic implications".
