FG Begins Movement of Petrol Products By Train

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) said it now has the capacity to move petroleum products from various tank farms in Lagos to all parts of Nigeria.
The corporation has therefore commenced talks with oil marketers in the country with a view to partner with them in lifting their products to other parts of the country.
Spokesman of the NRC, Mr. Abdulraouf Akinwoye disclosed this in a chat with newsmen in Lagos. This expected to reduce the number of petrol tankers on the highways and the attendant accidents which have killed many motorists.

Apart from the movement of petroleum, the NRC has also commenced movement of cement usually conveyed through heavy duty vehicles and trucks which constitute danger to commuters and tankers.
As part of measures to beef up the manpower of the corporation to ensure seamless conduct of its activities, the spokesman said the corporation is currently recruiting 1500 junior staff in three different districts of the NRC.
He said, "We are moving petroleum products from Lagos to Kano, we are equally moving cement from Lafarge Company to all parts of the world.
"We have gone into discussion with oil marketers to let them know and have the belief that we have all it takes to move petroleum products from tank farms in Lagos to all parts of the country.
"To really ensure total success of all our programmes that informed the ongoing recruitment exercise, to have the necessary workforce especially among the young folks, that's the junior staff and what we are doing has been so transparent."
