There are strong indications that the Federal Government is again considering tinkering with the management of Nigerian Ports Authority, with a specific intent to harmonise and synergise some departments of the agency.

Shipping Position Daily correspondent also gathered last week in Lagos that some departments of the agency may also be merged to pave way for a smaller management as part of what our source referred to as the transformation process.
Although details of the restructuring could not be ascertained, it was confirmed as well that the shakeup may also affect the executive management (which includes the managing director).
But, a source at the supervisory ministry of transport hinted our correspondent last week that, the ministry is under pressure over the push to engage surrogates of politicians as general managers to fill the expected vacancies.
‘It’s being considered, but there is no agreement yet, everyone is aware of this, even in NPA, they are aware”.
He also confirmed that, “once the GMs leave, it is expected that some AGMs will move up, but it may not be so, there is a strong push to engage some persons from outside to fill the vacancies”.
