The 34 luxury buses finally exited from the terminal last week in preparation for commercial activities within the first week in April.

The 34 luxury buses finally exited from the terminal last week in preparation for commercial activities within the first week in April.
Auto Port Weekly gathered that the LAMATA buses would be deployed on the ever- busy and Lagos –Badagry expressway with a terminal already created at the Julius Berger yard in Okokomaiko. The buses are expected to convey passengers from the Ojo, Agbara, Badagry areas onto the Mainland and Lagos Island.
One of the agents who handled the buses’ clearing process and who identified himself as Amoebi John confirmed that the BRT bus will commence full operation along the Lagos- Badagry route with the terminal located at the Berger yard.
Mr. Amoebi hinted Auto Port Weekly that even with on-going road construction on the Lagos -Badagry Expressway; the buses will commence operations as it is a means to assist Lagosians who live in that axis. “People living in areas like Ojo, Badagry, Okokomaiko,Ijanikin ,Ajangbadi and other neighbouring towns will benefit from the scheme as a means reduction of transportation fee to people who are working on the Mainland and of course the Island’’, he stated.
According to him, the only disadvantage of the route is that there is no ‘BRT’ lane which the buses will use. “One of the disadvantages of the scheme in the Okokomaiko axis is the heavy traffic that passengers will experience as a result of no BRT lane until the completion of the road, but it will not hinder the transport business in that route.
One of the proposed driver of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority [LAMATA] bus said without the BRT lane, transport business on that route will succeed as it is applicable to areas like Igando, Ikotun, Iba and Cele Bust stop and the operators are still on course. He added that with the price and comfort ability of the passengers, the usual heavy traffic or congestion will not be a factor.
“The new buses spent five weeks at the terminal while plans were being made on the route which the vehicles will ply in Lagos State before the conclusion of Lagos Badagry- Expressway became the last option and Okokmaiko became the strategic location for the terminal”, the source said.
