Ghana has dropped charges against two Ghanaians who were arrested on suspicion of aiding eight Nigerian pirates for hijacking of the Nigerian-flagged commercial oil tanker in the territorial waters of Ghana.
The two George Opata Okrah; a freight forwarder, and Joel Yaw Attah; a shipping agent were arraigned before the court in Accra and charged with piracy and conspiracy to commit piracy.

Meanwhile the eight Nigerian pirates: Molih Williams, Molih Klinsman, Peggy Aki, Ebiyaibo Amos, David Jacobs, Apetimiyi Onyinie, Piano Saniyo and Picolo John who are currently on remand are awaiting committal by the magistrate court for actual criminal trial to commence at the high court. The case has been adjourned to 26th May 2015.
According to the prosecution, the two Ghanaians had no involvement with the offense. The two were subsequently acquitted and discharged by an Accra magistrate court.
George Opata Okrah and Joel Yaw Attah were arrested in March 2015 after they were suspected to have aided eight Nigerian pirates arrested by Ghana Navy for hijacking a vessel carrying huge sums of oil in Ghanaian maritime space.
Chief State Attorney told Pulse.com.gh that after proceedings in court Tuesday that, investigations have revealed that the Ghanaians are not guilty of the charges leveled against them.
The eight will however be arraigned on May 26, 2015.
