The Ghana Navy has arrested ten Nigerian nationals who were discovered as stowaways aboard a Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel, MV Grand Venus, at the Tema Port.

According to a statement released by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on Monday, November 3, 2025, the arrest was made on Friday, October 31, 2025, about eight nautical miles southeast of Tema, after the Navy received a distress call from the vessel.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had illegally boarded the vessel while it was docked at the Lagos Port in Nigeria before it departed for Ghana.

“The Ghana Navy has on Friday, 31 October 2025, arrested ten stowaways on-board the Panamanian-flagged Merchant Vessel Grand Venus in Tema following a distress call,” the statement read.

The Navy said that after the interception, the vessel was escorted to the main harbour at Tema, where the stowaways were handed over to the relevant authorities, including Port Control, the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Marine Police, for further investigation.

The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public of its commitment to maritime security and law enforcement within Ghana’s territorial waters, noting that further details will be released as investigations continue.

“The Ghana Navy wishes to assure the general public that additional details will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” the statement added.
