The Federal Government has announced that Dangote Group, Honeywell Group, and BUA Group will repair Apapa port as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in a tweet monitored by Shipping Position Daily had said that he took an helicopter ride to access an aerial view of the level of traffic confusion at the Apapa.
The official Twitter account of the Federal Government of Nigeria also tweeted that "Dangote Group will carry out palliative works and reconstruction of some major sections of Apapa road; completion by June/July 2018,"
It went on to reveal that "Honeywell Group will construct Trailer Park" and "BUA Group will carry out construction works on Tin Can road".
Dangote stated on Tuesday that work will finally commence next week on the Apapa Oworonshoki expressway. His announcement comes after the stakeholders meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Dangote said: "We will start work next week. The bidding process is going to go on where four, five contractors will bid, anybody that wins the contract we will fund the project under the agreement that we have.”
Everything including, the project design has been handed over to the contractors
Minister of Power Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola stated last week that all the stakeholders are fixing the Apapa roads for a whooping N180b.He said "A given example is our discussion now with a group of companies that is going to spend about N180billion to fix Apapa roads comprising of Creek road, Marine beach to mile 2 all the way to Oshodi, Oworonsokri up through till gate. This is a 34kilometer road minus 7kilometer already done around Oshodi side. By so doing, it would free the funds for other roads"
"We are not giving the company a free pass, the Company and Allied Act of 1990 says that an individual or company can expend resources on federal government, state or local government roads and later get back relieve, it is like paying your tax in advance. The MoU is being signed, the moment the lawyers agree, the road would bring a major relieve", he said
