The Inland Containers Nigeria Limited (ICNL) is making provision for additional infrastructural towards the commencement of the Kaduna Dry Port for it to meet international standards.
The ICNL, which is the concessionaire of the Kaduna Dry Port, also revealed that the project has three phases and there is the possibility to kick start the Kaduna Dry Port in the first quarter of 2016, shortly after the completion of the first phase.
Managing Director of ICNL; Mr. Yusuf Ismail disclosed this to journalists in his office last week, short after been decorated with Corporate Gold Achievers Award as most promising leader in the maritime sector.
He also acknowledged the role of the Nigerian Shippers' Council in making the dry port dream a reality.
"The commencement date will not be in the last quarter of 2015 again, because it is something that is open to everybody"
"If I tell you that it is going to be in two weeks for commencement date and it never happened then people will not be serious with us", he said, even as he assured that the first quarter 2016 new date is sacrosanct.
The Chief Executive Officer of ICNL also revealed that the Shippers Council had instructed the company to put in place some level of engineering requirement which will serve as an additional infrastructure for the Dry Port.
Ismail added that the management of the company has approved the disbursement of funds for the commencement of the engineering infrastructural development.
Speaking further, he reiterated that the engineers and contractors have been mobilised to site to carry out the construction work as requested by the regulator agency.
Ismail also pointed out that "we have a time frame for the contractors to the construction and once that is done, we will commence operation"
He however lauded the Nigerian Shippers’ Council for the support and encouragement on the hinterland facility, saying that the council in its advisory role in the project is yielding positive result for the smooth take off on the Kaduna Dry Port.
