Some Nigerian importers under the aegis of “Goods Made-in-China Association (GMIA)’’have proposed the creation of a special fund for the importation of goods made in China.
The proposal was coming on the heels of call by Mr Xi Jinping, the Chinese President, for the exploration of new areas between Nigeria and China.
Mr Jinping had at a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari recently in New York, U.S., restated the need to boost bilateral cooperation and upgrade the Nigeria and China’s strategic partnership.

Nigeria and China diplomatic tie was established 44 years ago and 2015 also marks the 15th anniversary of the founding of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum.
GMIA’s Secretary Chief Charles Udeogaranya, said in a statement that the call by the Chinese President was welcome as it would open new windows of cooperation between the two countries.
The statement said that poor financing arising from double-digit interest loans often tend to limit importers volume of importation and distribution network which, invariably, leads to fewer jobs.
It said the group noted that improved funding for importers of goods made in China would be of benefit to Nigeria.
“Nigeria through the activities of importers has become the continental market hub for the distribution of Chinese goods in Africa.
“This will create a more prosperous business relationship as Nigerian importers are capable of extending the distribution of Chinese goods to South America, Middle East and a large part of Eastern Europe from Nigeria on a well-enhanced plan.
“We welcome in totality, the Chinese president’s call for boosting cooperation with Nigeria on trade, investment, finance and others but most importantly, the exploration of new areas and ways for practical cooperation.
“ We encourage the representatives of both Nigeria and China governments to swing into action and bring to fruition this noble call by Jinping for the greater benefit of both nations.’’
