The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has said that the indiscriminate parking of petroleum products tankers along its access road has affected revenue drive by the command.
The command however said that despite these challenges, it has been able to collect more than N4.41billion during the first quarter of this year.

Giving a further breakdown of revenue collected in the first quarter of the year, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ndidi Amadi told Shipping Position Daily yesterday that it made N1,316,069,530 in January.
In February the command made N1,349,206,503 while it also collected 1,753,670,940 in March.
The KLT command has an annual revenue target of N28.9billion with a monthly target of N2,410,115,270.58k.
But speaking on the challenges that have affected the command's revenue collection, the image maker lamented that the transfer of containers has been difficult due to the tankers’ indiscriminate parking.
Amadi explained that the number of containers that are supposed to exit the terminal has been hampered by the trucks parked outside the gates.
He noted that importers declined to stem their containers to KLT because of the state of the access roads and the delay involved in the process of moving the containers out, pointing out that it is a disadvantage to the command.
The image maker added that immediate transfer of containers from the Lagos ports to the terminal have been delayed due to the tankers, saying that there is need to sensitize members of NUPENG on how to manage the situation.
"Our major problem here is not that of the container trucks, but of tankers because the movement of containers in and out KLT has been affected due to the indiscriminate parking on the access road and they are giving us headache", he said.
He however lauded the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, KLT command for ensuring that containers trucks find their way out of the terminal.
Amadi also added that NUPENG taskforce has assisted to reduce the number of tankers parked along the axis, pointing out however that this has not yielded sufficient positive result expected by stakeholders.
