The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents on waterways.
Mrs Abisola Kamson, Managing Director, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), made the assertion at the distribution of life jackets to five primary schools in Sabokoji, a riverine area in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
2,400 life jackets specifically designed for students were distributed to the schools.

Mrs Abisola Kamson, Managing Director, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), made the assertion at the distribution of life jackets to five primary schools in Sabokoji, a riverine area in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.

Kamson said the goal of the government was to ensure that every water transportation user used a life jacket prior to embarking on any kind of water vessel.
She noted that: “Drowning is one of the largest causes of injury among children living in riverine areas. Our goal is to reduce the number, if not eradicate it completely.
“We are here as part of Lagos State Government concerted effort in encouraging and improving water safety,’’ she said.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr Seyi Whenu, said the initiative was part of the government’s integrated inter-modal transportation system aimed at bringing together all the means of transportation.
Speaking, the Executive Secretary, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Mrs Modupeola Ajibola-Ojodu, appreciated the government’s gesture and enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of the jackets.
There were life demonstrations of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), wearing of life jacket and floating in water.
