The Lillypond Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has appealed to importers and their clearing agents to import more of their cargoes through Lillypond Terminal, saying that cargoes are now cleared within 24 hours at the terminal.

The Command also announced that it has collected N12.6billion as revenue from January till date, noting specifically that even though the month of August is yet to come to an end, customs has so far recorded N1.8billion as revenue in the month of August.
Tallatu noted that Lillypond area command is a dry port that depends mainly on other seaport terminals for survival, even as she said that other terminals can only transfer cargoes to Lillypond when they are already stuffed.
Tallatu was represented at the meeting by Deputy Controller in charge of Administration; Ozoemena J.O
"From January till date, we generated N12.6billion into the federation account and this month, we have generated N1.8billion even though the month has not ended" she said.
She appealed to freight forwarders to promote the command to importers and to, "tell them to come to Lillypond Terminal because their cargoes will be cleared within hours"
"We are at a disadvantage because our cargoes come to Apapa, this is a dry port, it is only when Apapa have eaten before they now send some to us, this is why we must be user-friendly, we clear goods within a day, unlike other place where it takes weeks" she reiterated
The Controller pointed out that the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR) being operated by customs is very efficient now, and that bottlenecks which earlier hindered smooth operations of PAAR have now been eliminated.
She urged agents to make genuine declarations because according to her, when declarations are ambiguous, it suggests that the declarant has something to hide from the authorities.
