Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) Aare Sanni Shittu has dumped his ally in the leadership tussle that has engulfed the board; he has resigned from the board.

Speaking with Shipping Position Daily yesterday, Shittu said his decision to resign from the board was born out of his love for ANLCA and his resolve to ensure that peace reigns within the association.

The ANLCA board has been factionalised with two of its members, Chief Henry Njoku and Alhaji Taiwo Mustapha laying claim to its chairmanship.

In an election that reportedly held sometimes in April 2016 in Festac Town, Lagos, Njoku was reportedly voted out by five members of the board namely; Sir Earnest Elochukwu (former President of ANLCA) Chief Dennis Okafor, Taiye Oyeniyi, Taiwo Mustapha, and Dayo Azeez, while Henry Njoku and Peter Obi voted against.

But speaking with our correspondent yesterday, Shittu said his resignation was to engender peace and a find a way forward for the association.
Shittu was a strong member of the Oodua Maritime forum; a pressure group within ANLCA which has been advocating that a Yoruba man must emerge as Chairman of the BOT.

He however denied that there was pressure on him from certain quarters to resign, saying that, "it's just that anything that will bring peace into the association is what I stand for,  and I believe that there is nothing too big to sacrifice in order for the association to work". "I turned in my resignation two days ago", he confirmed.
