One of the parties behind the plan to acquires hectares of land that will take off 5000 trailers off the road in Apapa, the Association of Maritime Road Transport Owners (AMARTO) has said that the idea is being escalated and that, no concrete decisions has been taken yet.
Some maritime stakeholders, including the Aqua Transit Services Ltd, in partnership with the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and AMARTO have been linked to the partnership.
But, the chairman of AMARTO, Chief Remi Ogungbemi told Shipping Position Daily last week in Apapa that until money exchanges hands, what is currently going on is a mere discussion.
“You will hear from me at the right time, because at this point we have been asked not to divulge any information to the public that will boomerang, so just hold on for now until we finalize. Discussion is ongoing with NAGAFF, ANLCA and with the person directly in-charge, I mean the investors. If money have exchanged hands, if they have made any commitment, it is then that we can start commenting. It is just a mere discussion for now since there is no commitment yet”, he said.
He however reiterated that one of the partners, NAGAFF has the system already, even as he added that all they want is for people to key into the system.
“For example, NAGAFF has the system already and we still want to perfect it so that everybody will now key into the system. We don’t have the monopoly, we are also leaving our doors open for anyone that can come and add value to the system, ”he said.
