The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has announced the appointment of a three-member Caretaker Committee to temporarily oversee its affairs as part of an internal reorganization aimed at strengthening the association’s structures.

The decision emerged from the association’s general meeting held on November 20, 2025, at the MARAN Secretariat/International Maritime Press Center in Apapa, Lagos. The meeting, which had over two-thirds of the membership present — including all nine members of the outgoing executive led by Mr. Godfrey Bivbere — reached a unanimous resolution on the need for a transitional structure to reposition MARAN for its next phase of growth.

The newly appointed Caretaker Committee are : Mr. Tunde Ayodele — Chairman, Mrs. Ruth Sunday Umunna — Treasure and Mr. John Obot — General Secretary

MARAN has urged all stakeholders across the maritime sector — including ministries, departments, agencies, and private sector partners — to direct official communications and inquiries to the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee during this interim period.

The association emphasized that the restructuring is part of a forward-looking effort to enhance operational efficiency and should be viewed strictly as a strategic step for the collective interest of MARAN, the maritime industry, and the nation.

Meanwhile, MARAN extended an invitation to stakeholders for the launch of its forthcoming publication, “50 Drivers of the Nigerian Marine and Blue Economy,” scheduled for December 4 at Providence Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

As Nigeria’s foremost body of dedicated maritime journalists — duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission — MARAN continues to uphold its nearly four decades of credible, insightful, and impactful reportage across print, electronic, and online platforms. With a membership of more than forty professionals, the association remains committed to advancing informed coverage of the nation’s maritime sector.
