MARAN Rolls Out Red Carpet For Maritime Industry Icons

At least 10  maritime in dustry stakeholders who have distinguished themselves in various aspects of maritime and related fields and who recently emerged from a long list of previously short- listed top players are to be honoured at a top- rate celebrity showcase which has been tagged “Maritime Industry Night of Honour”.
The high profile event is being put together by the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) and it’s billed to hold soon in Lagos.
Coming about five years after a similar recognition was bestowed on some distinguished stakeholders; this year’s roll-call of awardees is still being kept close to the chest of the award committee which is headed by the association’s former president Mr. Sesan Onileimo.
Mr. Onileimo who issued a statement last week in Lagos on behalf of the committee, disclosed that even though MARAN does not want to go to town yet with the identities of the awardees, “it is important to explain that what we are doing is to (once again) single out those who have distinguished themselves consistently since 2004 when we last held this kind of event”.
“MARAN will roll out the red carpet for them in what we have appropriately tagged Maritime Industry Night of Honour”, he stressed even as he confirmed that the identity of the awardees will further confirm that as journalists, we are indeed unbiased and objective.”
“As a matter of fact, the process leading to the emergence of these personalities was entirely left for stakeholders who were discretely guided through a gallop poll which eventually produced the awardees”, he disclosed.
The process started a few months ago when MARAN sent out a teaser which was responded to by some, we followed it up with requests to stakeholders and eventually, we sent out nomination forms which were massively filled”, he disclosed further in the statement. He however disclosed that in the weeks ahead, MARAN will unfold the identities of the lucky awardees who cut across core maritime and shipping business, administration and oil and gas operations.
