The President, Executive Council, and members of the Maritime Security Providers Association of Nigeria (MASPAN) have congratulated Vice Admiral Idi Abbas on his appointment as the 25th Chief of the Naval Staff of the Nigerian Navy, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of his dedication and service to the nation.
In a statement signed by MASPAN President, Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, the association noted that Vice Admiral Abbas’s appointment comes at a crucial time in Nigeria’s maritime history, when issues of maritime security, crude oil theft, piracy, and other transnational crimes continue to challenge national economic growth.
According to the statement, the new naval chief’s track record of professionalism, strategic leadership, and commitment to national security underscores the confidence reposed in him to lead the Nigerian Navy into a new era of operational excellence.
“Your appointment at this critical juncture is a testament to your distinguished service, strategic acumen, and unwavering commitment to the protection of Nigeria’s maritime domain. MASPAN is encouraged by your pledge to lead a decisive, disciplined, and technology-driven Navy, which aligns with the private sector’s goal of improving operational efficiency and promoting global best practices,” the statement read in part.
MASPAN emphasized that the success of Nigeria’s Blue Economy initiative depends heavily on the safety and security of the nation’s waters. It reiterated its readiness to strengthen collaboration with the Nigerian Navy in tackling maritime crimes and promoting a secure environment for trade and investment.
“As a key stakeholder representing indigenous maritime security practitioners and corporate organisations, MASPAN reaffirms its commitment to deepening the existing strategic partnership with the Nigerian Navy. We are prepared to leverage our collective expertise, assets, and intelligence to support the Navy’s mandate under your leadership,” Maiguwa stated.
The association also highlighted Vice Admiral Abbas’s previous experience as Maritime Guard Commander with the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), noting that the role has adequately prepared him to drive the vision for a secure and prosperous blue economy.
MASPAN expressed optimism that the new leadership will further strengthen synergy between public and private maritime security frameworks, standardise operational protocols, and sustain efforts toward eliminating all forms of maritime criminality.
The statement concluded with prayers for divine guidance, wisdom, and strength for the new Chief of the Naval Staff as he undertakes the responsibilities of his new office.
