As part of effort to proffers to find lasting solution to the lingering vehicular traffic along the Apapa Oshodi expressway linking the two Lagos seaports ,the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has charged the newly-posted Area Commander of Police, Ndu Anene to synergise with the Nigeria Shippers’ Council and other divisional stations under it.
As part of effort to proffers to find lasting solution to the lingering vehicular traffic along the Apapa Oshodi expressway linking the two Lagos seaports ,the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has charged the newly-posted Area Commander of Police, Ndu Anene to synergise with the Nigeria Shippers’ Council and other divisional stations under it.
The founder of NAGAFF, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam gave the advice yesterday when the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, Area "B" Command Headquarters Apapa in Lagos paid a courtesy visit yesterday.
According to him, there is need for the Area Commander of Police to have a symbiotic relationship with the Shipper’ Council and even the Port Police command to find a lasting solution to the usually heavy traffic in Apapa.
The NAGAFF founder stressed that, “what I will want you to do as regards the traffic gridlock in Apapa is to synergise with the new economic port regulator, that is the Nigerian Shippers’ Council on how to proffer solutions to the traffic problem faced at the ports, most especially at the Tin Can Port road".
"Your next step should be that since the Shippers’ Council is now in charge of port regulation, I think you should organise a meeting between you and the executive secretary of the council, Barrister Hassan Bello and the Port police boss on how to clear the traffic gridlock at Apapa ",he told his guest.
Aniebonam also charged the commander to arrest erring commuters who violate traffic rules along the expressway.
Earlier in his remark, the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Area ‘B’, Ndu Anene advised freight forwarders to be law abiding during the course of discharging their duty.
Anene said that NAGAFF, as an organisation should help the police in intelligent gathering, adding that the Nigeria Police are peacemakers in the society.
According to him, there is need for freight forwarders to abide by the laws governing the country,
He also assured members of the association that innocent and genuine agents will not suffer in the hands of the police, but stressed that the police are doing their job for security purposes.
Anene said, " if the Police do not pay attention to whatever that comes into the country then we are not doing our jobs, therefore we will check containers for security purpose whenever we have any information against such containers”.
Also speaking, the National Deputy President of the association, Barr. Fred Akokhia assured the area commander that the NAGAFF will render assistance to ensure success.
