In what appear as a calculated move to shore up the acceptability of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has directed members to pay up their annual dues.
The association, in the directive that was signed by its chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT); Mr Chidiebere Enelama stressed the need for all its members to also register with the regulatory body.
In the statement which was e-mailed to Shipping Position Daily, NAGAFF declared that it is also “mandatory for every Chapter establish and administer a chapter secretariat in the name of NAGAFF with necessary facilities including register of members well kept for headquarters administration and records”.
It insisted that every of its members must be duly registered with the CRFFN, even as it urged the Council’s registrar, Sir Mike Jukwe “to establish an outdoor registration post at NAGAFF Village…..”, “to aid the intending members.”
Threatening to sanction any erring member or chapter executive, the association stated that its board “shall not tolerate non compliance even by
elected members. The President of NAGAFF Mr. Eugene Nweke has the
authority and mandate of the Board to invoke emergency powers to deal with
non-compliant members in line with our constitutional provisions.”
While putting up the age-long argument, NAGAFF pointed out that ownership of Customs license is not a prerequisite for freight forwarding practitioners, it stressed that “it is not mandatory to own a Customs license for the purposes of freight forwarding profession in Nigeria”. It consequently advised freight forwarders who do not have a Customs license to register with the association at once.
“The ID Card issued by the CRFFN and NAGAFF are the authority you need to
enter the ports and approved border stations of the Nigeria Customs Service to transact business”, it argued.
