The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Badagry, on Tuesday handed over 372 bags of smuggled foreign rice to the Nigeria Customs Service.
The Commanding Officer, Navy Capt. Leye Omotayo, said the seizures followed targeted, intelligence-led operations conducted by Base personnel in recent weeks.
Omotayo, represented by the Base Executive Officer, Cdr S. Yakubu, reaffirmed the Base’s commitment to a secure, lawful and economically viable maritime domain.
“In line with naval procedures, 302 50kg bags were handed to Seme Area Command, while 70 50kg bags went to Western Marine Command.
“The Chief of the Naval Staff has stressed building a professional force to safeguard maritime security and protect the nation’s economic aspirations,” Omotayo said.
He said the Base’s operations focus on securing maritime and adjacent land areas through professionalism, inter-agency cooperation and strong community relations.
