Navy Rescues Hijacked MV Bourbon Off Brass, But Two Crew Including Master Kidnapped

The Nigerian Navy has rescued a hijacked vessel MV Bourbon. But, one Russian and a Nigerian were abducted from the Offshore Support Vessel before Navy’s NNS Centenary was able to contact and rescue the vessel from the hijackers. However, the Navy said it was stepping up efforts to find two abducted crew members.
A statement by Captain Suleiman Dahun for the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas said a Nigerian Navy ship NNS Centenary successfully rescued the supply vessel MV Bourbon about 55 nautical miles off Brass, Rivers state.
“Following an alert from the ship’s owners, the Nigerian Navy dispatched NNS CENTENARY to locate and rescue the ship which was accomplished at about 2am today.
“Both vessels are currently heading towards the Federal Lighter Terminal, Onne, Port Harcourt where the naval authorities will conduct further investigation,” it said.
BOURBON had earlier confirmed in a press release that one of its vessels was the object of an attack off Nigeria. The company also informed that the rest crew of 10 are back on board the vessel in Onne port, safe and sound.
An emergency cell has immediately been set up. BOURBON said it is in contact with the families, and supports them in this difficult event.
