New FOU Zone A Controller, Comptroller Gambo, Rolls Out Reform-Centred Agenda

The newly appointed Controller of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Comptroller Aliyu Gambo, has outlined an ambitious reform agenda built around three pillars: Change Management, Compliance Management, and Reputational Management.

Speaking in an interview with journalists, Gambo said his administration will be driven by accountability, motivation, transparency, and professionalism. He noted that his leadership direction aligns with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, whose focus on meritocracy and competence-based human resource management has continued to shape reforms within the Nigeria Customs Service.

Gambo said Change Management under his watch will prioritise attitudinal reorientation across Customs personnel, the trading public, and border communities. He argued that sustainable institutional reform begins with mindset adjustments, adding that officers must embrace professionalism and discipline, while stakeholders must understand that Customs’ operations are anchored on national interest and the rule of law.

He observed that Customs is operating in a fast-evolving global trade environment that demands adaptability, intelligence-led enforcement, and constructive stakeholder engagement. According to him, change must reflect in behavioural adjustments and stronger institutional culture.
