Even though the residents of Kirikiri town have continued to lament the activities of petroleum tank farms and how it affects their daily living, a new tank farm has sprang up at the area.
A visit to the tank farm area of Kirikiri by Shipping Position Daily last week showed that the new tank farm, which according to sources belonged to NAKEM is already nearing completion.
Our correspondent gathered that when completed, the depot will be used to distribute Automated Gas Oil (AGO) known as diesel, and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) otherwise known as kerosene.
Sources at the tank farm confirmed to our correspondent that NAKEM has bought the land for a long time and it has just decided to convert it into an oil depot.
A source at the Mosheshe Estate which is close to where the depots were sited stated that, "their presence here is more like a menace. The moment they block this lone entrance and exit into Kirikiri from the Oshodi-Apapa expressway, every one is in trouble. Oftentimes, the gridlock takes hours to clear".
