The Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers,(NIFFCB) is sourcing for a new national president who must be financially buoyant with sound educational background.
Speaking with the board of trustees and executives of the institute recently, incumbent President of the institute, Dr. Zebulon Ikokide said that there is need to source for fund to run the affairs of the institute.
He said there is also the need to establish a working relationship between NIFFCB and its associates.
“It is hereby suggested that, we should start looking for a financially strong and educationally sound person to be persuaded to assume the position of national president of the institute to help revamped the institute which is now moribund”, Ikokide suggested.
According to him, “as an institute, we intend to place the greatest premium on good governance”
“You all know that good governance entails financial responsibility, accountability and transparency”
“It also entails good working relationship with the board of trustees, fellows and the committees when finally constituted in terms of fairness and equity in the management of NIFFCB”, he told members of the board.
The NIFFCB President told the executives and board of trustee members present at the meeting that there is need to find means to generate sufficient funds to run the affairs of NIFFCB , calling for an entire restructuring of the institute management for effective delivery.
“This body is poised to serve as the main professional institute through which matters relating to freight forwarding both local and internationally are discussed, addressed, appraised and initiated to various public sector agencies, private sector entrepreneur, including private freight forwarding associations and government”
“In view of the above, we are proposing a restructuring of the entire institute management for effective delivery of the institute’s objectives”, he said.
Ikokide however said that for such to be achieved, the board of trustees and executives of the institute should resolve to secure a better office accommodation to replace the present secretariat donated by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council.
Speaking further on how to obtain effective delivery objectives of NIFFCB, the maritime expert pointed out that there is need to also secure an appropriate grading of the institute’s professional certificates by the ministry of education and to also assist in quality membership drive for the freight forwarding school.
