The Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mr Patrick Akpobolokemi, says the organisation has not foreclosed granting national carrier status to the ISAN Shipping Line.
ISAN Shipping Line is owned by Nigeria Indigenous Shipowners Association (NISA).
Akpobolokemi made the assertion in a statement by NIMASA’s Head of Public Relations, Mr Isichei Osamgbi and made available to newsmen in Lagos.

Akpobolokemi made the assertion in a statement by NIMASA’s Head of Public Relations, Mr Isichei Osamgbi and made available to newsmen in Lagos.
According to the statement, Section 35 (A-G) of NIMASA Act 2007 stipulates the requirements for the granting of a National Carrier status by the Honourable Minister of Transport on the recommendation of NIMASA.
It quoted the NIMASA boss as being passionate about the floating of a National Carrier because of the benefits to Nigeria, seafarers and shipping development.
The statement also said that NIMASA would continue to engage shipowners as major stakeholders in the development of the Nigerian maritime sector.
