NIMASA Reiterates Commitment To Resettle IDP's, Dead Soldiers Children

‎Coming on the heels of an appeal made few weeks ago by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai that Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and other organizations should assist with the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) NIMASA has assured that it is pursuing this vigorously.

Deputy Director of Public Relations of NIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka at an event in Lagos on Tuesday‎ said that the agency is taking huge steps to resettle the IDP's and to absolve the children of soldiers who died in their fight against Boko Haram in some of NIMASA's programmes.

‎Tumaka said "We are looking at it and we are taking it seriously to see how we can‎ help, we are looking at the programme that we have, we must extend it to the children of these solders and also those that are in the camps, we are warming up for that to take place"

When the NIMASA Director General, Haruna Baba Jauro visited Buratai recently, the army chief had stressed that resettlement of the IDPs was important since calm was being restored to some of the affected communities in the North.

He said that this could be done through the Corporate Social Responsibility programmes of NIMASA in order to have the IDPs properly re-integrated into the society.

It appealed to NIMASA to engage some children of the soldiers who lost their lives in the battle against insurgency in its National Seafarers Development Programme (NSDP).

Speaking at the event on Tuesday, Hajia Tumaka assured that NIMASA is passionate about the plight of the displaced Nigerians and the dead soldiers children.

"Our CSR this year is automatic because of the number of IDP's that we have in the country, we are quite passionate about the plight of the Nigerian citizens, we have made this our focal point to make sure that we assist in sending them back to their society and their homes"

"Recently we visited the chief of army staff and the chief of naval staff, and the chief of army staff requested particularly that we extend a hand of love and concern to the children of the solders who lost their lives in their course of fighting Boko Haram" she stated.
