Frontline down stream operator in the nation’s oil and gas sector, NIPCO has called for extreme caution in handling petroleum products, saying that zero tolerance is the hallmark of its operation in Nigeria.
The organisation’s manager, corporate affairs, Mr. Lawal Taofeek, gave the advice recently while receiving graduating students of marine engineering department of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom State who were on facility visit to the company’s terminal in Lagos.
The students who were led by one of their lecturers Mr. Lekan Oloyede were in the terminal for practical exposure to oil and gas related facilities as part of the requirement for the award of Higher National Diploma (HND) by the Institution.
Lawal stated that the company has since its conception noted the hazardous nature of exposure of its personnel and equipment to products, hence the insistence that all the safety parameters must be put in place and also be seen to be working and effective.
According to the company’s image maker, NIPCO, an indigenous oil and gas operator emerged as an answerer to the prevailing domination of the sector by foreign companies at the expense of scores of independent fuel marketers.
He old the visiting students that the company had remained committed to its vision of being the first choice company in the oil and gas industry by providing quality services in petroleum products handling in an environment that is friendly, safe and dignifying.
He asserted that with the dogged determination and resourcefulness of subscribing fuel marketers and the core investor, the company is now a reference point in the annals of petroleum products storage and distribution in the country.
The leader of delegation, Ooyede had earlier in his address thanked the company for the opportunity to expose the academy’s engineering students to operations of the oil and gas firm.
According to him, the experience that was garthered from the facility tour will remain indelible in the minds of the cadets in their future endeavour.
