The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is mourning the death of its former Chief Executive, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 90.
In a statement signed by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ikechukwu Onyemekara, the Managing Director of the NPA, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, described Tukur as a pillar of trade facilitation and an inspiration to many in the maritime sector.
Dr. Dantsoho joined the Executive Governor of Adamawa State to receive the corpse of the late business mogul and elder statesman.
“I will like to, on behalf of the entire Management and Staff of the NPA, express our profound condolences and deepest sympathies to his immediate family, the Federal Republic of Nigeria and indeed the good people of Adamawa State on the demise of a distinguished elder statesman,” Dantsoho said.
Bamanga Tukur served as General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority from 1975 to 1982.
During his tenure, he was credited with laying important groundwork for port administration and trade facilitation in Nigeria at a time when the ports were central to the nation’s economic growth.
Beyond the NPA, Tukur was also known as an international businessman and statesman whose contributions cut across commerce, politics and public service.
The NPA said it joins the global trade facilitation community in mourning the passage of Tukur, noting that his legacy of service and leadership continues to inspire current and future generations of port administrators.
The Authority prayed for the repose of his soul and strength for his family and the people of Adamawa State during this period of mourning.
