The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says it has transferred 2279 Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) overtime containers from the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, to the Ikorodu Lighter Terminal.
Assistant General Manager, Public Affairs, of the NPA; Mr Musa Illiya, disclosed this on Tuesday in Lagos
Illiya said that the containers were moved to Ikorodu between Feb. 2 and March 5.
Overtime containers are those that had overstayed their period, in most cases after a period of 90 days, at the ports.

Illiya said that the containers were moved to Ikorodu between Feb. 2 and March 5.
Overtime containers are those that had overstayed their period, in most cases after a period of 90 days, at the ports.
He said that the aim was to avoid congestion of cargoes at the ports.
“Normally, the port is supposed to be a transit point. It is not supposed to be a storage facility.
“There should be room for new cargoes to come in,” he said.
Illiya said that the movement of the containers was done in collaboration with the Customs, which had gazetted them.
He added that the owners could visit the customs to claim the containers.
