General Manager , Western Ports, Nigerian Ports Authority [NPA; Chief Michael Ajayi has charged members of the newly- constituted Apapa Joint Task Force on Traffic Control within the Apapa corridor to make meaningful contributions towards the solving the problem of traffic congestion within the area.
He charged members of the Joint Task force to ensure they provide a solution to the problem and not add to it.
General Manager , Western Ports, Nigerian Ports Authority [NPA; Chief Michael Ajayi has charged members of the newly- constituted Apapa Joint Task Force on Traffic Control within the Apapa corridor to make meaningful contributions towards the solving the problem of traffic congestion within the area.
He charged members of the Joint Task force to ensure they provide a solution to the problem and not add to it.
Members of the Task Force are drawn from: the Association of Maritime Transport Owners [AMATO], National Association of Road Transport Owners [NARTO], Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria [RTEAN] and the Joint Council of Seaport Transporters. [JCOST].
Chief Ajayi spoke last week when he received members of the Task Force in his office in Apapa implored them to ensure that they are ‘’ a solution to the problem and not a problem to the solution’’
He appealed to them not to engage in any activity which can be tantamount to indiscipline, threat to other constituted government agencies performing similar functions and must have zero tolerance to extortion and corruption.
Chief Ajayi reiterated that the members of the task force can earn themselves the respect of other stakeholders, through their conducts and not engaging in activities which might thwart the efforts of other stakeholders in traffic control.
‘’You can earn respect for yourself through your conduct. You must be seen to be disciplined, check the excesses of okada riders and truck drivers and you must have zero tolerance for extortion’’, he advised, even as he added that they should work in harmony with the other traffic control outfits of the NPA, Nigerian Police and Lagos State government.
The General Manager commended the leadership of Association of Maritime Truck Owners under Chief Remi Ogungbemi for the initiative and assured that the NPA would support the initiative to ensure greater success.
The AMATO Chairman; Chief Remi Ogungbemi who thanked the General Manager for the audience, however assured that members of the task force would conduct themselves well and make positive impact in the traffic control within the Apapa corridor.
