The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), says it has strengthened partnership with the Nigerian Army Operation Enduring Peace (OEP) Command, Jos, to enhance security of critical rail infrastructure in the North Central and North East regions.
This is contained in a statement on Friday by Sefrem Felix, Public Relations Officer, NRC North Central and North Eastern districts.
She said the corporation reiterated commitment to closer collaboration with security agencies to secure rail infrastructure during a visit by Maj.-Gen. Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division, and Commander of the Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP).
Felix said the visit held on Nov. 18, was part of a broader effort to deepen inter-agency collaboration with the military to protect railway tracks, installations, and materials against vandalism.
She highlighted that such synergy would strengthened cooperation for joint operations between NRC security units and OEP personnel, enhance surveillance of high-risk corridors and improved rapid-response mechanisms to tackle emerging threats.
The spokesperson said the corporation also sought OEP’s support to retrieve and safeguard railway materials located within its operational zones.
“The delegation stressed that securing railway assets is vital to ensuring uninterrupted operations, public safety, and the corporation’s long-term infrastructural development plans.”
Oyinlola, who was represented by Col. Senlong Sule, expressed OEP’s readiness to partner with the NRC, noting that protecting national infrastructure remained a top security priority.
According to Oyinlola, the command will support effort to curb vandalism and maintain a safe environment for railway activities.
He said the renewed collaboration would further strengthen security presence along vulnerable routes, and enhance the overall protection of Nigeria’s expanding railway infrastructure.
