Oil Theft: Operation Pulo Shield Nabs 19 Suspects, Seizes Vessel

 Operation Pulo Shield, the joint military outfit in the Niger Delta, has announced the arrest of 19 suspected oil thieves.
A statement by Lt.-Col. Isa Ado, its spokesman, said that the suspects were arrested during a multiple raid in the last 10 days.
Ado said the outfit also seized a vessel and a barge laden with 1,000 tonnes of suspected stolen automotive gas oil commonly known as diesel.
“The outfit arrested eight suspects on board the barge. Both the barge and the suspects are in the custody of Operation Pulo Shield.

“The outfit arrested eight suspects on board the barge. Both the barge and the suspects are in the custody of Operation Pulo Shield.
“The troops also arrested an ocean-going vessel along Forcados Estuary in Warri South West Local Government Area in Delta.
“The vessel, christened MT ASKJA, is currently secured at Yokri in Warri South West Local Government Area for preliminary investigation.
“The troops arrested two suspected crude oil thieves in Burutu, also in Delta with drums of stolen crude,” Ado said.
He said the troops arrested four suspects with an illegal bunkering tanker marked Lagos XZ 843 AAA, pumping machine and a hose at Orogun community in Ughelli North in Delta.
The suspects, according to him, are in the custody of OPPS for preliminary investigations.
He further said that the troops nabbed five suspected cultists in Aseomuku in Ndokwa East, Delta, operating with locally made guns, cutlasses, axes and 10 live cartridges of 7.62 mm calibre.
Ado said that all the cases were being investigated.
“Troops also carried out raids at Elechi and Nembe water side in Bayelsa, where illegal distillery camps were destroyed along with a Mercedes van marked DW 68 PH, loaded with suspected stolen diesel.
“One barge and some boats loaded with suspected stolen crude were also intercepted and destroyed along new Calabar River but no arrest was made, as the suspects fled on sighting the troops,” Ado added.
