Following the recent assurances given by Ford Motors to assembly 10 units of vehicles daily in Nigeria as part of measures to boost local manufacturing in the country, operators in the automobile industry have commended the American car makers for their transparency and vision.
The operators however advised the car maker to help build the sector to an enviable level within the sub region of Africa, whereby vehicles manufactured in Nigeria can be exported to other African nations.
According to the operators, there is need for Nigerian car manufacturers to look beyond the Nigerian market; they also stressed the need for exportation of Nigeria-made brand.
Speaking with Auto Port Weekly, Chairman, Curve Motors Nigeria Limited, Sir, Ugo Dike commended Ford Motors for the assurance of assembling at least 10 units of vehicles per day.
Dike noted that the move by the carmaker will boost the economy of the country, calling on other manufacturers who are willing the assembly vehicles in the Nigeria to emulate the American auto manufacturer.
According to him, if the company is serious about manufacturing 10 units per day, it will create more than 180 direct and indirect jobs for Nigerians. He also urged the government to provide an enabling environment.
Speaking further, the car dealer maintained that there is need for government to support the automotive policy, saying that it is a goldmine initiative.
He also called on other car manufacturers to be transparent in the quest to assemble vehicles in the country because according to him, other carmakers that have indicated interest in the same venture in Nigeria are yet to live up to expectation.
Also speaking, another dealer; Mr Francis Azuka urged Ford to work hard to sustain its promise of manufacturing 10 units a day, noting that assembling such a number will raise the bar for others to follow.
However the fairly used dealers expected the American carmaker to ensure that the facilities at its disposal are up to capacity and standards, adding that it is the hallmark of good business.
He however appealed to the government to encourage vehicles importation into Nigeria and the need to support vehicles assembly as well.
He noted that there are enormous benefits in vehicle assembly in Nigeria and also exporting to other countries in the West Africa sub region.
