Managing Directors and Chief Executive Officers who participated at the just concluded executive professional diploma in freight forwarding organized by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) have rated the program high, even as they expressed optimism that the knowledge derived from the program will remodel their various organizations and place it on a solid footing.
Managing Directors and Chief Executive Officers who participated at the just concluded executive professional diploma in freight forwarding organized by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) have rated the program high, even as they expressed optimism that the knowledge derived from the program will remodel their various organizations and place it on a solid footing.
Some of the 17 participants who spoke with Shipping Position Daily at the end of the one week course commended the CRFFN for organizing the training and enjoined other freight forwarders to take advantage of the ongoing programme in order to professionalize.
One of them, Hajia Bola Muse told our correspondent that, “I am very happy with the programme because it is an enlightening one and as a chief executive, there is a lot of traits within me which I now understand through this training, I am so happy about it, It is going to affect my business a lot, and with immediate effect, I will start implementing it”
Also speaking, legal and media officer of the Cargo Defence Fund, Barrister Tino Buoro described the training as a new experience, he said “it is a product of a paradigm shift, there is a new law now that regulates the freight forwarding industry which is very vibrant, but up until now the public image of it was not on high rating, so the law says that service providers are also to register as members of the council, so that explains how I came into it”.
“Secondly, if you are in an industry, you need to know the language of the industry and the workings, it has been an exciting experience for me because I am a certified freight forwarder, so when I have issues in matters of freight, I can understand it from the perspective of a lawyer and a freight forwarder” he said.
Alhaji D.O Omideyi a freight forwarder who said that he has been practicing since 1958 equally commended the CRFFN for the training and also assured that the knowledge gained will transform his experience in freight forwarding, which, according to him “today is quite different from how it used to be back then.”
President of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Mr. Eugene Nweke who also spoke with Shipping Position Daily correspondent after the training, explained that the programme is tailored towards enhancing performance and to inculcate the sense of professionalism in freight forwarders. “As a CEO, now we must model our companies and organization, the spirit of putting up a company and when you die, you die with it, is no longer in vogue; when you are modeling a company you build a legacy that will be sustainable whether you are there or not, we have been told that FIATA does not encourage this”.
“It serves as an eye opener, there are many things we are not doing right but which we think we are doing right, freight forwarders are the central coordinators, we coordinate the buyer, the seller and we bring them together” Nweke said.
Vice chairman of CRFFN, Dr. Sam Onyemelukwe who also participated in the programme, explained that, the “CRFFN is organizing this training for us to widen our knowledge and have the basic training of how this business is run, and as we are leaning it, we are expected also to carry it down to our business and implement them, and as we are doing it, the CRFFN also will ensure that being a regulatory body, it will be regulating the associations, it is all to strengthen and smoothen our operations”.
Onyemelukwe acknowledged that there are a lot of operational failures in the port, but he assured that the knowledge he gained will be put into practice to ensure that operations are smooth.
