Participants at the just concluded one week Train – the- Trainer capacity building programme organised by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) have commended the Council for organising the training.
They however urged the council to make the exercise a regular one in order to build capacity for the freight forwarders.
Participants at the training are drawn from various universities, tertiary institution and CRFFN accredited training institutions.

Speaking at the closing ceremony held at CRFFN secretariat in Lagos over the weekend, they expressed satisfaction with the training.
One of the participants; Director, Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the Benue State University; Dr. Isa Okpe described the training as an intellectual exercise which he said has exposed them to rudiments of supply chain management and international trade among others, adding that the training has been successful.
"The training is an intellectual exercise where we are able to learn and brainstorm. "
"We have achieved that objective and the training has exposed me to the rudiments of supply chain and the issue of international trade, global marketing, global purchases and public expenditure management".
“The training should be a continuous thing; both for us in the academia and in the field because as some are aging out of it, some are coming in. So those coming behind will be able to benefit from it too” he said.
Also speaking, Rector, Global Maritime Academy, Warri, Delta State; Mr. Isaac Aikoroje who is also one of the participants said the training will enable them train the freight forwarders.
According to him, most of the freight agents learn the profession from their parents; he added that with the knowledge obtained from the programme, the practitioners will be better-equipped with modern techniques associated with freight forwarding practice.
“Most of our freight forwarders learn the job from their parents , so it is not in accordance with best practice but with this training we are better equipped to train them and I am very sure that may be next year, it will be impossible for any freight forwarder to operate in the port without a certificate in freight forwarding,” he said.
Also, Registrar, Coastal Maritime Academy, Mr. Barnabas Epu lauded efforts of the CRFFN to train the trainers, even as he reiterated that freight forwarders are professionals in shipping business.
Speaking earlier with newsmen at the closing ceremony, Head Corporate Affairs of the CRFFN; Mrs Chinyere Uromta stated that the week long programme is aimed at enlightening the trainers who will later impart the knowledge unto the practitioners.
Uromta noted that CRFFN was established by the government as part of measures to train Nigerian freight forwarders.
She said that the training of the trainers will bring about professionalism in the freight forwarding sub sector of the maritime industry.
Uromta however urged the trainers to impact positively on the participants who are the eventual trainers to the freight agents.
